2019 is soon over - and it's nice to reflect back to the year we had experienced. The focus of the e-paper industry continues to shift from e-readers to more diverse applications including signage and retail applications, even though the e-reader continues to be a successful and stable market.

Ynvisible sent us this nice Christmas card, that shows off the company's flexible transparent electrochromic displays. Ynvisible's displays are produced using a simple printing method, which allows them to be quite cost effective.

Ynvisible was established in Portugal in 2010, and in 2011 the company started producing sample products (we tested one in August 2012). In September 2018, the company has gone through a reverse take-over, and the Canadian headquartered Ynvisible Interactive Inc. has inaugurated its new production line near Lisbon.

The government of the Guangzhou province in China announced generous subsidies (up to $285 million USD per company) to encourage investments in emerging display production in the province.

The goal is to help establish display production hubs - and the list of display technologies include OLEDs, Micro-LEDs, QD-LEDs, 3D displays, graphene enhanced display technologies - the e-paper displays.ill begin in early 2020.

E Ink announced a new color e-paper technology, which they call Print-Color E Ink, which is intended for the smart education and retail markets. It can also be used in e-readers or e-notebooks, though.

E Ink did not provide much details, but says that Print-Color E Ink panels are produced on plastic substrates and are utilizing a different technology than E Ink Advanced-Color ePaper (AcEP) - which seems to be of higher quality and as such targets different applications. The company is working with partners to "launch color electronic paper application products as soon as possible".
