E Ink and TPV launch a 25.3" four-color Spectra E Ink displays

E Ink Holdings announced that it partnered with TPV Technology to launch the first 25.3" E Ink Spectra 3100 color display to the transportation and smart retail markets.

The new E Ink display features four-color technology, with black, white, red, and yellow pigments. When used as transportation signage for railways and buses, it can display alerts and reminders, schedules and changes or other notifications for travel. And when applied in the retail field, it can be used as Point-of-Purchase signage to promotion product information, with vivid reds and yellows to attract consumers' attention.

TÜV Rheinland awards E Ink's Kaleido Plus display with its new Paper Like Display certification

E Ink Holdings (EIH), announced that TÜV Rheinland Greater China has awarded its Kaleido Plus E Ink display with a "Paper Like Display" certification. This is the first display that receives TUVR's new certification.

EIH and experts at TÜV Rheinland worked in collaboration for two years to develop a metric for evaluating specific optical indicators on reading comfort for paper-like display products. These parameters were then evaluated against reading comfort in conjunction with user experience to arrive at the Paper Similarity Index (PSI), aimed to help consumers select ePaper products that offer a high level of reading or visual comfort.

E Ink Holdings had to halt display production in its China factory due to a COVID breaktout

E Ink Holdings announced that the company had to halt ePaper production in its plant in Yangshou, China due to a COVID breakout in the city. The infections are now receding, and it seems as if the outbreak is under control.

Even with this disruption, EIH believes that its 2021 net profit will increase from 2020. Its revenues in August, however, will be effected by the shutdown.

E Ink launches the world's first on-cell touch ePaper display

E Ink Holdings has launched an on-cell touch ePaper module, which it says is the world's first. EIH's on-cell touch technology can be applied to the company's E Ink Carta monochrome displays and its Kaleido Plus color displays.

Most e-readers today add a touch layer onto the E Ink display. EIH says that the new technology will increase the contrast ratio by 30% compared to the standard added touch layer solution. For the Kaleido Plus displays, the on-cell will increase color contrast ratio by 40% and the color saturation by 15%. As an added bonus, the on-cell touch solution will be more cost effective and could help reduce eReader prices.

EIH sees higher demand for ePaper displays in 2021, is worried about component shortage

E Ink Holdings says that it is seeing high demand for ePaper displays and expects to see a growth in revenue in 2021. The company is worried though that the shortage in components may hurt its full potential.

EIH says that 2021 will be better than 2020, and it sees its performance in Q2 to be similar to its performance in Q1. The demand for E Ink's display is higher than what it can supply, and the company is building four new production lines to increase capacity.

E Ink shows foldable and rollable ePaper displays

Last month at Touch Taiwan 2021, E Ink demonstrated its latest foldable and rollable ePaper displays, and the company now published this nice video that shows these flexible displays:

We're not sure how close to commercialization these displays and such devices are, but it will very nice to see a foldable or even a rollable e-Reader on the market soon!

EIH and IntelliCentrics to develop medical smart badges with E Ink displays

E Ink Holdings announced a new partnership with healthcare security solutions developed IntelliCentrics to create Eco-friendly ePD smart badges for medical credentialing.

The new smart badges integrate IntelliCentrics' technology platform and E Ink's ePaper display technology. The smart badge can be reused after disinfection and will replace the traditional paper badge to reduce the consumption of single-use paper, and to provide real-time badge updates as needed.

E Ink launches new four-color shelf label ePaper displays

E Ink Holdings launched a new display called E Ink Spectra 3100, which is a next-generation four-color ePaper display aimed to support Electronic Shelf Labels (ESL) and retail signage.

Thew new Spectra 3100 features four-particle electronic ink, in black, white, red and yellow. It features an improved update time, and an expanded temperature range for red and yellow states. Spectra 3100 displays will be offered in panels with an updated all-in-one driver IC that supports premium ESLs with higher resolution across various sizes.
