China-based DKE announced it is starting to produce ePaper displays on OTFT backplanes and plastic substrates. The flexible E Ink displays are branded as DKE FLEX, and are available in both monochrome and color.
The first product that DKE started to produce is a 3.9" display, used in a consumer device that wraps around a 180-degree bend (the company did not disclose the product itself).
FlexEnable is the company that provides the OTFT materials and backplane technology. DKE says that OTFT backplanes are proven to be three times more rugged than amorphous silicon transistors used in conventional ePaper displays.
